February 23, 2022. GOT the Beat Winter’s ‘Step Back’ fancam becomes the fastest female idol fancam in history to surpass 10 million views on YouTube.
ICYMI: Winter has participated in SM Entertainment’s project girl group ‘Girls On Top’, which launched the unit ‘GOT the Beat’. On January 27, GOT the Beat performed their song ‘Step Back’ on Mnet MCountdown. Two days later on January 29, the melt-in fancams (입덕 직캠) for each member were uploaded on M2’s YouTube channel.
Despite the holidays (Chinese New Year), Winter’s fancam quickly gained views and at one point gained more than a million views in a day. Her fancam also trended on YouTube South Korea for days in a row, showing that interest from the Korean public massively contributed to the views.
Winter went viral after her fancam was uploaded. Across multiple social media platforms, the thumbnail and clips from the fancam drew a lot of attention.
“Pucca hair” or “Dumpling hair” Winter contents are shared all over the internet while influencers and celebrities–especially the Japanese– expressed their love for Winter’s cute styling and adorable attitude on stage. Winter makeup covers and cosplays were also shared on social media and uploaded on YouTube.
On China’s Weibo, 金玟庭双丸子头造型(Kim Minjeong Double Ball Head Shape) trended #8 on hot search for Entertainment List. The fancam was popularly dubbed as “Dumpling fancam” by Korean fans so much so that upon entering the search term “만두 직캠” (dumpling fancam), the video appears on top of the search results.
After 25 days, Winter’s fancam has surpassed 10 million views and has become the fastest fancam to achieve this milestone, breaking the previous records held by EXID’s Hani and BLACKPINK’s Lisa who took 151 and 157 days to reach 10 million views, respectively.
Winter joins ITZY’s Ryujin as the only 4th generation idols to have a fancam with over 10 million views. She is also the first and only SM Entertainment with a fancam to achieve the 10-million milestone. Winter also holds the record for most fancams with over a million views for a 4th generation idol, with 22 fancams reaching the million mark at the time of writing this article.
UPDATE: March 12, 2022. Winter’s ‘Step Back’ fancam is now the most-viewed 4th generation idol fancam, surpassing ITZY Ryujin’s ‘Wannabe’.
